Monte
VT Dog Rescue saves dogs from high kill shelters in the South and finds them loving homes.
Monte
Monte was found as a stray in Kiln, MS. When dogs are found by Animal Control, they are put on stray hold for a few days to allow time for owners to locate their dogs and bring them home. Although Monte’s owner was notified of his location and informed the as a black, large breed dog, he would likely be euthanized - they didn’t come to bring him home. Monte remained in the kennel day after day, waiting for his people to come get him, but they never did.
Despite being abandoned, this gentle giant is full of love and ready to make a fresh start with people who will reciprocate that love.
He is great with dogs of all ages and sizes - as well as cats. He’s drawn to young puppies and seems to enjoy taking on a fatherly role - almost like a mentor showing a new guy how things work. It’s adorable to witness Monte’s teaching style and how proud he is of dogs he has helped such as Snail. They were in the same foster home for a few months.
The vet who has cared for Monte in MS feels he’s about 3 years old. As of 9/27, he weighs 77.2 lbs. His overall temperament is laid back and mellow but occasional short lived bursts of playful energy. He will happily join his person for casual walks & hikes, but is not a marathon runner. His energy level is 3-5 on a 1-10 scale. His mellow personality also goes along with being a large breed dog.
We do not provide DNA testing which is the only way to know with certainty which breeds are in his genetic background. Our best guess is that he is a Lab/ Great Pyrenees mix.
