Cal - Male - This dog was brought into the MS shelter when his owner was charged with animal cruelty. During a hot day last summer, witnesses called the police when they saw Cal's owner dragging his body along the sidewalk. Cal was unable to walk b/c he was suffering from a heat stroke.

The heat was so intense it burned the pads off several toes and the friction of the drag scarred his abdomen and inner thighs. Pics below.

With the help of some amazing people, Cal has healed and he's ready for his new life to begin.

Cal is working on his leash skills, is housebroken and crate trained.

He loves playing with other dogs and enjoys interacting with people. He's great for a home with active people who enjoy doing things & going places with their dog. Excellent adventure partner! He is approx 10 mo old and weighs about 45 lbs.

Soldier - Male - This handsome boy has an estimated date of birth as 6/28/22. He weighs about 20 lbs and is thought be a Lab mixed with a smaller breed - possibly a Jack Russell, but that is only a guess. Without a DNA test we can’t be sure, but he is on the small side and we don’t expect him to be over 35 lbs as an adult.

Soldier (aka Solly) was run over by a car when he was young and had several broken bones reset and have healed. He is currently in physical therapy working to restore his strength in one of his hind legs. He’s progressing well and is now ready to find a home of his own. He rides well in the car, is crate trained and almost done with housebreaking. He is currently sleeping through the night in his crate. Such a good boy!

Solly plays well with other dogs and will enjoy a home with other dogs or neighbor’s/friend’s dogs who he can engage with on a regular basis. His foster mom shared”

-He is great with kids. We visited with my nieces on Thanksgiving Day (ages 11,9,7). He loved them and they loved him. Super cute to see him take to them almost instantly.
-He is full of playful energy during the day and then likes to snuggle in a lap at night.
-He is a super friendly guy, enjoys humans.
-He soft, cuddly and FULL of love to give.
-He is smart and easy to train.
-Excellent eye contact.”

Kenlee - Female - This sweet momma arrived at the shelter in Vicksburg, MS as a stray. Her 3 puppies were with her and she fought valiantly for their lives, but tragically all 3 died due to lack of vaccinations. We can only imagine how devastating that was for her.

She was the shelter favorite during her stay because of her loving and gentle personality. She is laid back & loves attention from people. She was transferred into a foster home in MS where she continued to thrive.

Kenlee is now coming to VT. She is ready to start her new life. She's the sweetest pup, adores people, enjoys playing with other dogs just as much as she loves cuddling on the couch and is heartworm negative having recently been treated.

She's housebroken and crate trained. She's 1-2 years old and weighs about 60 lbs. We expect her weight to decrease as she begins exercising on a regular basis.
